These times are crazy. These times are rough. These times make you question your ability to find your balance. If you are similar to most humans, you are probably experiencing a multitude of feelings that may include uncertainly and anxiety, that can change from moment to moment. All of these feelings are normal, and just as the weather changes day to day, so can our thoughts and emotions. Now is a good time to check in with yourself regarding your general well being. Make the time and effort to take care of all- of- you.

Here are the boxes to be sure you are checking:

Physical:

  • Eat mindfully by having a balanced diet with a variety of healthy foods. Eat 5-6 small meals a day to keep your energy level up. Click here for tips

  • Make sure you get enough physical activity in your day. This should include a variety of cardio, training, and stretching. Checkout some great cardio and strength classes here and some yoga classes here. (A little shameless, self-promotion is allowed, right?!)

  • Sleep! Sleep is extremely important and unfortunately this one can be a challenge for many of us. Make sure you are getting at least 7-8 hours a night! Get an app to track your sleep

Mental:

  • Take frequent mental breaks throughout the day. This will give your mind a chance to relax and allow you to switch from “doing” to just “being”. Check out free meditations

  • Make it a point to find time each day to find something or someone you are thankful for. Gratitude rewires our brain and is the quickest pathway to joy! Free journal app here

  • Surround yourself with positive people and things! Whether it is a good friend you have a chat with, or a good book you curl up with.. the more positivity you keep around you, the better you will feel!

Emotional:

  • Seek out therapy when needed. We go to physician when our body is sick, and we should go to a therapist when we could use some assistance with stress, depression, or anxiety. Take care of your whole self! find a therapist.

  • Be an active part of your community. Whether it is chatting with your neighbors, taking your dog to the local dog park, or joining a virtual forum about a cause important to you, it will feel great to be surrounded by like- minded people. Join local groups here.

  • Volunteer. When we help by giving our talents and our time to others, we feel connected and useful to society. This is great for our self-esteem.

Spiritual:

  • Take part in things that connect you with a higher power and fulfill your soul. Whether it is connecting through spiritual or religious practices, or even the simplicity of being in nature. Check out meditation.

  • Connect with yourself. Put your hand on your heart. Take a breath. Your heart is beating and you are ALIVE. Reflect on the miracle that YOU are and how amazing that is.

Nature:

  • Just in case this box didn't get checked above, I am making another bullet to sure of it! Nature is the oldest medicine. It is timeless and never goes out of style, especially during covid. Take a walk, smell the smells, maybe even feel your feet on the earth. It sounds so simple and obvious, but I promise it is one of the most impactful things you can do. Download the All Trails app on your phone and find gorgeous local hiking trails that suit your needs!

Sure, it can be hard to check all of these boxes, on a daily, or even weekly basis. But if you feel a little off- kilter, take a peek and see if there is an area you have been neglecting, or even yet to discover. Maybe, just maybe, it is the missing piece to get your groove back. Oh, and don’t forget your yoga. That may very well be a short cut to all of these, but I may be partial!

Take care of All – of- You. Always.

In Love and Light,

Melissa
